Unit 3 REPRESENTATION & VISUAL TEXTS


Students, among other things,

LEARN TO:
  • Respond to, analyse and compose texts that use symbolism and judge their effects on responders
  • Respond to and compose texts in different technologies, considering the effects of technology, design and layout on meaning
  • Compose non-literary visual text appropriate for differing contexts
  • Identify different reading positions and interpretations, including cultural elements of texts

LEARN ABOUT
  • The features of increasingly complex texts and the ways they are presented
  • Different techniques used to compose multi-media texts
  • The selection and organization of ideas in non-literary texts
  • The ways changing views of the world shape meaning and how value systems underpin texts

ICT Strategy
Students contstruct a visual advertisement.

The visual advertisement would contain a combination of appropriate ltext, design principles, and graphical elements.

OPTIONS.
A landscape poster designed and produced in either MS Word, MS PowerPoint or as a Web Page

Given the need to develop skills in Word Processing recommendation is to produce a Visual Advertisement in MS Word.

Proposed activty

Students to produce a proposal for a visual advertisement for either:

  1. a work of art, or
  2. a religous artefact

The adververtisement proposal is in reponse to a client's request (the client for the task will be the Year 10 English teacher).

The proposal is to be in the form of a Word Processed document comprising:
  1. Portrait style report pages outlining the client's brief and requirements
  2. A landscape page comprising the visual advetisement

Report pages

  • Reprot pages to be in 'Portait' orientation
  • A Cover Page with the task name, outline, student's and teacher's name
  • Report pages with the student's name in the footer of each page

Advertisement

  • Must be included as a page within the document
  • Must be in landscape page format
  • Must comprise multiple columns of text
  • text must be positioned using appropriate tabs and indents
  • Must include at least one bulleted and one numbered list
  • Must include at least one table
  • Must include more than one type of line spacing.
  • A graphic with appropraite citation of source

The ICT Skills required in relation to Word Processing are:


4 Demonstrate basic word-processing skills as they create, work with and modify text documents
Indicators
a) Insert headers and footers
b) Create section and page breaks
c) Create multiple columns of text
d) Use tabs and indents
e) Use bullets and numbering
f) Create tables and format cell size
g) Set line spacing

Students could learn/practice these skills outside of class time.

To complete the Visual Advertisement activity students will also need to know how to:

Save an image
Insert an Image into a document
Copyright, plagairism and citing image sources
